Surgieron para principio de los '90 pormla explosión de éste género musical, fue gracias a la masividad ganada por la banda de Kurt Cobain: Nirvana, el gran mito de ésta tribu.
Su vestimenta es sencilla y práctica, surgió por necesidad ya que esta tribu se creó en Seattle, un lugar muy frío de EE.UU. Ellos usan camisetas de mangas largas debajo de camisas de franela (preferentemente de diseño escocés).
Otros exponentes de éste movimiento son: New York Dolls, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Iggy Pop,etc.
